DRIFTWOOD SALON PROUDLY PRESENTS
“Memory/Imagination”, a solo exhibit by Alexander Schaffer Czech, Feb 4th-Feb 26th 2011
Please join us Friday, February 4th from 5 pm–10 pm to help us welcome our first ever solo artist, Alexander Schaffer Czech. Alexander's new series, “Memory/Imagination”, has been in the works for over a year now and will feature an amazing collection showcasing the artist's deep love of the ocean in the form of large scale oil paintings, woodcuts, photographs and pencil drawings.
As an emerging artist, Alexander Schaffer Czech was awarded a scholarship to study painting from San Francisco’s prestigious Art Institute in 2000. Since then, Alexander has continued to develop his mastery depicting our water’s surfaces. Whether it be six foot oil paintings, intricately carved out woodcuts or intense graphite studies, Alexander shares with the viewer his own unique perception of different bodies of water. Using his memory as well as his imagination, he captures lapses of time only a surfer or fisherman experience as they sit, amidst the vast blueness of the ocean, unseen depths below with the ever changing sunlight. Alexander’s paintings embrace these moments like a held breath waiting for the next wave to roll in. In his own words;
“Being a fisherman and wave rider, I have spent an infinite number of hours staring at the ocean, lakes, streams…As light reaches its destination, it penetrates the molecular movement, and forms a dance hall of color and rhythm. Every moment of time projects a new face that is never similar to the last.”
Opening party will feature music by DJ Adolfo Antonio, food, wine and refreshments! Come celebrate with the artist himself, his family, friends and business associates on Friday, February 4th for the opening party from 5 pm-10 pm
“Memory/Imagination” will be on exhibit until Feb 26th 2011, and there will be a closing reception on Sunday, February 27 from 3pm-8pm. Gallery hours are Tues-Sat 12pm-6 pm.
