Café Royale is pleased to present With Care, by Cameron Kelly, new works by the San Francisco based artist.
Kellys' work utilizes vintage personal possessions such as brushes,
shaving accessories or embroidered pillowcases combinding these
materials with organic references to the body, most notably hair.
Cameron's sculptures push personal, social and formal boundaries
evoking what Marcuse has described as the "remembrance of a life
between illusion and reality".
Cameron begins her work by
searching EBay for materials. She gleans words from the sellers'
descriptions and profile information to serve her vignette of a
fictitious life, the identity of a memory or a personal history.
work is at once silly, nostalgic and evocative; it provokes unconscious
desires and anxieties that are both personal and social.
