Alula Editions with Jason Jägel

Hands on repeat pattern making: Friday, July 2, 2010, 7-10pm

Visitor's drawings will be combined with Jägel's to create a wall piece that will grow over the course of the one month exhibition.

Tesselation workshop: Saturday, July 17, 2010, 12-3pm

Many repeat patterns are built using tessellating shapes. Join us for a crash course in how to make your own tessellating shapes and walk away with a custom textile.

Alula Editions works in collaboration with artists to create repeat patterns for textiles that defy expectations and move beyond purely aesthetic considerations. During their one-month occupation of the Royal NoneSuch gallery Alula Editions will turn the gallery into a workshop for their inaugural production. The first edition, which uses work by artist Jason Jägel, investigates the repeating pattern for its link to the electromagnetic fascia of life as found in brotherhood, family, and other social relationships. Visitors to the gallery will witness the production process as it unfolds over the month. There will also be an opportunity for public participation in the form of workshops designed to give visitors a hands-on introduction to the ideas present in the edition.

About the artist:

Jason Jägel was born in 1971 in Boston, Massachusetts. He received degrees from California College of Arts and Crafts (BFA 1995) and Stanford University (MFA 2002). Jägel has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally including New York, Tokyo, Copenhagen, Milan, Barcelona, Los Angeles, Seattle, and New Orleans. Jagel's work appears in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The UCLA Hammer Museum and the Portland Museum of Art, among others. Jägel lives with his wife and two daughters in San Francisco.
