Join us this fall as SFAI presents FREE lectures and film screenings as part of Visiting Artists and Scholars (VAS).

Featuring more than a dozen acclaimed artists from around the country\, including Jayson Musson\, Mick alene Thomas\, Mungo Thomson\, and Rashaad Newsome\, the VAS lecture series provides students and faculty—as well as the wider Bay Area public—with di rect exposure to major figures in contemporary global art and culture.

< b>Artist Bio
Judie Bamber’ s meticulously rendered drawings and paintings explore issues of gender rep resentation and personal biography through a photo-realistic visual languag e. Her recent body of work is based on Polaroid snapshots of her mother tak en by her father in the 1960s\, including nudes and images inspired by fash ion magazines.

A graduate of CalArts\, Bamber has shown her work throug hout the United States\, and has been included in exhibitions such as T he Visible Vagina\, David Nolan Gallery and Francis M Naumann Fine Art \, New York\; Sexual Politics: Judy Chicago’s Dinner Party in Feminist Art History\, UCLA Hammer Museum of Art\, Los Angeles\; and In a D ifferent Light\, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. She was awarded a California Community Foundation Fellowship in 2008 and a City of Los Angeles Individual Artist Fellowship in 2007. Bamber is also a recipie nt of the Richard Diebenkorn Teaching Fellowship and leading a course at SF AI this semester.

About t he Visiting Artists and Scholars Lecture Series
SFAI’s Visitin g Artists and Scholars (VAS) lecture series provides students and faculty—a s well as the wider Bay Area public—with direct exposure to major figures i n contemporary global art and culture. It creates an open forum through whi ch SFAI’s students are challenged to go beyond basic canonical approaches t o the study of art and to discover a global perspective that encourages con ceptual and comparative approaches. In addition to the public lectures they give\, visiting artists and scholars regularly engage with students in an immediate and active way\, by teaching intensives or by participating in se minars\, critiques\, or colloquia.
