Give Me Some Peppermint Freedom
by E-Slant Team

Jancar Jones Gallery
965 Mission Street, Suite 120, San Francisco, CA 94103
June 19, 2009 - July 18, 2009

The Jancar Jones Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibit of new work by San Francisco-based artist, Chris Lux, titled Give Me Some Peppermint Freedom. In his second solo show with the gallery, Lux will present a series of new oil paintings and sculptures. Drawing from historic regional movements, his anti-slick yet modern aesthetic embraces Bay Area figuration while incorporated found objects invoke funk assemblage. His use of vague representation achieved through the rapid application of paint owes itself, in part, to the more recent New Image sensibility while evoking his own distinctly manic gestures. In his new work, Lux moves away from his previous, more graphic style toward looser abstract compositions. With a focus on the sculptural qualities of the paintings, Lux experiments with variations in stretcher size and installation techniques to effectively alter the gallery’s navigable space. Chris Lux was born in San Francisco and received his BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. His work has been exhibited at the Luggage Store in San Francisco, Tree House Gallery in Los Angeles, and Dam, Stuhltrager Gallery in New York.
