Coachella: The other bands to see
I thought I'd add some tips in terms of bands to check out that would usually fall under the radar. Of course there are the obvious bands to see, Morrisey, Franz Ferdinand, MIA, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Paul McCartney, The Cure, The Black Keys, etc, but what are we supposed to see when the beating sun is still out? I had to ask my good friend Jason Miller for his suggestions. Here they are:
Ghostland Observatory: like a funky high energy electronic my morning jacket.
N.A.S.A.: stands for North America South America. One DJ is from brazil, the other from NY. They teamed up and made an album with lots and lots of really famous and talented guests like David Byrne and many others.
Steve Aoki: hipster dj, who will probably be lots of fun in the rave tent.
The Hold Steady and Drive by Truckers: in the same category. They are super awesome- somewhat gruff sounding country-influenced grunge rock. Definitely good stuff.
Dr. Dog: GREAT band. Cool low-fi Wilco-ey sound and they are really really good.
Bloody Beetroots: new band on the Dim Mak label (same as aoki). Hipster electronic, but most likely a blast to see. 100% chance of neon.
Burkaka Som Sistema: really really high energy, electrified brazillian music. Sounds like really good reggaeton.
People Under the Stairs: underground hip hop legends.
Fucked Up: CRAZY high energy canadian punk. Fast paced, very distorted and a fair amount of intense vocals. Very very good.
Jason recommends www.Skreemr.com , www.hypemachine.com , www.imeem.com to check out any of these bands.
