Anish Kapoor's drawings exhibition at Regen Projects consists of medium and large gouache works on paper. The works are abstract, curvilinear marks forming an oval frame around a central space using a palette of mostly deep reds, oranges and purples. The lines dance around the paper creating a constant feeling of motion. The drawings are raw and intuitive, sensual and referential.

Known mostly as a sculptor, some of Kapoor's recent works, have been made from highly reflective materials that cast back the external world - with Cloud Gate, the clouds above are reflected in the mirrored surface, bringing the heavens to earth. In contrast to the grand gesture in the context of the external world, Kapoor's new drawings give life to the depths of internal spaces - exploring the spiritual within the corporeal realm. The works create intimate vignettes of perhaps the artist's own personal and spiritual explorations.

The full effect of the work is only completely seen when standing in the center of the gallery and viewing the works collectively. While each individual drawing holds its own, the pieces come to life when viewed together. Each piece becomes a new exploration into the vibrant world within the gap, presenting the rich vibrant landscapes of mysterious realms.

These works are an investigation into the idea of the void.  Interestingly, they examine the richness within the void rather than that which is "devoid of." Kapoor has created the atmosphere of abstract worlds somewhere between sultry deep sea environment and the glowing mouth of a volcano - worlds that are most certainly worthy of great exploration.
