Those who are plugged into the cozy art scene here in the Penninsula are probably already aware of the quarterly cocktail party at the Palo Alto Art Center, known as “Friday Nights at the Art Center.” Well, things just got a whole lot more interesting for the Art Center’s art party! Friday Nights at the Art Center is doubling down to celebrate the Spring exhibition, Pencils Down, bringing in exhibiting artists Chris Sicat and Kevin Chen to lead fun art-making activities, with live music by The Mark Arroyo Trio, and of course, the Art Center’s trademark themed cocktails. Attendance is free and it’s a great chance to mingle with other art nerds in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Click on the image below for more info!
Among all the fun activities planned for the evening, there will also be a walkthrough of Pencils Down, which is shaping up to be one of the more interesting exhibitions at the Art Center in recent memory. The exhibition highlights the work of artists whose primary media is graphite, including the aforementioned Sicat and Chen, as well as Libby Black, Judith Braun, Dalton Gheti, Francesca Pastine, Hilary Sanders, and Valerie Wilcox.
“The Palo Alto Art Center is pleased to present Pencils Down as a showcase of the creative potential of graphite—a seemingly mundane, but artistically rich material,” Karen Kienzle, director of the Palo Alto Art Center, shares. “We hope that this exhibition encourages our visitors to take up a pencil and be inspired create their own artwork.”
Get inspired to draw, sketch, carve, and coat with graphite, and have fun! If you’re in the Palo Alto area tomorrow night, definitely check it out!
