First Place

first place winner at the vista chamber of commerce juried photography show.

My piece Luz Cayendo (Falling Light) won first place in the juried photography competition at the Vista Chamber of Commerce, 127 Main Street, Vista, CA92084.

Luz Cayendo is a photo mosaic made up of two images that were shot in Oaxaca, Mexico.  The mosaic is inlayed with a geometric pattern found on the nearby ruins of Mitla, about an hour outside the capitol city of Oaxaca.  When I made the piece I was living in Oaxaca and I wanted the visual vocabulary of the culture to influence my work and this is what I was inspired to create.  I used papel amate, a handmade paper indigenous to the area, for the base of the collage and the whole piece floats within a custom wood frame.
