An exhibition and series of performance events that illuminate the dynamic, global, interconnected spirit of 21st century art.
Galeria de la Raza joins SFMOMA in presenting a series of performances in conjunction with the museum’s current exhibition Six Lines of Flight: Shifting Geographies in Contemporary Art, which brings together artists from six cities around the globe that have become burgeoning artistic centers.
One of the featured artists in the exhibition, Helena Producciones, is a grassroots interdisciplinary artist collective based in Cali, Colombia, whose Festival de Performance, launched in 1997, has become an important forum for emerging and established artists from Colombia and abroad. The 8th festival explores artistic production in Cali during the 1960s and 1970s and the modes of collective practice that allowed for connections between theater, visual arts, and political and social action at that time. The performances in San Francisco presented in collaboration with Galeria de la Raza include an artist workshop by Helena Producciones, as well as actions and performances by former festival artists Carolina Caycedo and Heidi and Rolf Abderhalden (Mapa Teatro).
