Hello frends! I am an artist. My roots take place in St.Petersburg, which has great architecture, culture and history that influenced me once and forever. Today, in the times of technical progress, mass production and new artificial materials I search for inspiration in the foundation of the Arts - old Russian Orthodox icons, Renaissance and folk cultures. I seek out look for new shapes and images within my themes using different materials, but my favorite is glass for its plasticit... [more]

Art Fair Musical: Setting the Stage for IN/SITU at EXPO CHICAGO   Pick-button-5bf6c1b36c3b74ec8f312c7c9f6f1ae3

Elijah Burgher, Robert Burnier, Leidy Chavez, Ken Gonzales-Day, Fernando Pareja, Cheryl Pope, Michael Rakowitz, Jessica Stockholder, Saya Woolfalk at EXPO CHICAGO September 18th - September 21st
Posted 9/16/14

As Chicago approaches the four day run of its annual art fair, the art world becomes increasingly animated with preparations. This is the moment backstage of an as-yet empty auditorium; red carpets are cleaned one last time as painters touch up their back drops and technicians in black clothes hastily test light and sound sequences. Dancers stretch. Producers sweat, fiddling their mobile devices unconsciously. There is a palpable buzz of anticipation — an energy not yet disseminated into the grea... [more]

Not So Pretty In Pink (And Why That's a Good Thing)   Pick-button-5bf6c1b36c3b74ec8f312c7c9f6f1ae3

Lily van der Stokker at Koenig & Clinton September 4th - October 18th
Posted 9/10/14

Imagine a summit called by feminist activists and artists representing all of the nuanced wings of the movement. In this time of uncertainty about the role of feminism in the art world, these delegates wonder who could best represent the complexities of feminism and feminist theory without apology. The name they arrive at is Lily van der Stokker, whose new show at Koenig & Clinton is a sprawling pink spectacle comprised of flowery sculptures and wall paintings that illustrate the artist’s theoreti... Gorgeous Fetish at the Asian Art Museum
by
9/4/14 Posted 9/4/14

The other night I went to an event that combines a few of my favorite things: floral design, performance art, dance, and sex. The SF Asian Art Museum showcased the event, Evoco, performed by artists Midori, Lady Samar, and Three. This is what happened – oh yeah, and it’s all going on with intense trance music, spun by DJ Rock in the background: -Three and Lady Samar are positioned on a low stage, which is covered in flowers, in the center of a pretty big room with high ceiling... A London fall primer for everyone (but especially Internet lovers)   Pick-button-5bf6c1b36c3b74ec8f312c7c9f6f1ae3

Autumn is high season for art and it’s an impossible task to keep up with the Smoke’s endless openings. Best to spread it out and try to see something of everything. The best exhibitions will kick off the season before Frieze takes over in October and demolishes everything artistic in its path. With this in mind, I’ve pulled together a little bit of this and a little bit of that—but basically, it’s all about the Internet. Best exhibition for British Art: MIRRORCITY, the Hayward Gallery ... White Walls Project Space hosts Meryl Pataky: ‘The Golden Hour’
by
9/2/14 Posted 9/2/14

First of all, let me just say that White Walls/Shooting Gallery is one of my all time favorite galleries in San Francisco. I love the unfinished quality of the space… concrete floors and exposed electric outlets reek of potentiality… and typical millennial haste. There are high ceilings and different exhibits happening in different areas (White Walls shares the space with Shooting Gallery and they also have a ‘Project Space’ gallery). When you walk in, you see some gra... [more]

There you see a design office from Antwerp, the peaceful Belgian city, though found boring by some people it is famous for its dance theaters, dance companies, museums, art and design galleries. Its name is Studio Job. Graduates of Design Academy Eindhoven, Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel founded Studio Job in Antwerp in 2000. Their impressive designs, one of a kind or limited edition works, the projects of the duo usually consisting of bronze founding or laser-cut inlaying are like a powerful n... [more]

On Art-Athina Art Fair

Art-Athina (International Contemporary Art Fair of Athens) took place on 15-18 May at Faliro Pavilion (TaeKwonDo Stadium) for the 19th time in Athens. Collecting the Images of the Sensible: Artworks from Turkey’s Collectors curated by Beral Madra and me besides the collection titled Pistoletto Rist by Daskalopoulos were two of the parallel events of the fair. Being one of the cities experiencing the impact of the economic crisis most dramatically in Greece, Athens had the depressing atmosp... [more]

Art and the Environment in East-Central Europe Introduction - from a special issue of ARTMargins
by
8/27/14 Posted 8/27/14

Art and the Environment in East-Central Europe is an editorial project born from interviews and other forms of interaction with artists and cultural producers concerned, in one way or another, with the idea and the material reality of what goes by the name of the "natural environment." In the different pieces collected within this project, the term "environment" unfolds into a broad variety of concepts and artistic practices that do not, and should not, become homogenized. A survey rather than... [more]
