DESCRIPTION

The museum of French monuments houses three galleries that between them offer an overview of architecture and heritage from the Middle Ages to the present day. The mouldings gallery displays civil and religious architecture from the 12th to the 18th century, the gallery of modern and contemporary architecture is devoted to developments that have taken place since the industrial revolution, and the gallery of wall paintings and stained glass windows exhibits tracings of frescos from the 11th to the 16th century.

The exhibits on display are extremely varied and perfectly illustrate the main developments in French architecture through the centuries. Abbeys, cathedrals and private mansions all unveil their sumptuous decors, both sculpted and painted, as well as their complex structures. Railway stations and skyscrapers are testament to the technical and formal innovations of the modern era. Public buildings and apartment blocks all bear witness to the changes in society and lifestyles.

The collections on display are quite exceptional. They include monumental mouldings on a scale of 1:1, 3D frescos, stained glass windows, models, drawings, books, films and prototypes. Casual observers and keen amateurs alike will find them utterly fascinating.

The museum offers a wide range of related activities, including conferences, group visits and youth workshops.
