> DESCRIPTION

Developed by Bétonsalon and Kadist Art Foundation, 12 Gestures is a monthly seminar that questions social practice in the field of art through focusing on artistic practices developed in close relationship with a community and a given socio-political context.

This month, Colombian artist Francisco Camacho comes to talk about his work of infiltration in the official structures of society. Amongst other projects, he will present Group Marriage (2009-present), a project advocating the idea of group marriage or of civil partnership between several individuals, which he has put to the Dutch Parliament.

In March, Swedish filmmaker Petra Bauer will present Read the Masks. Tradition is Not Given (2008), a documentary made in collaboration with Annette Krauss that critically explores the phenomenon of Zwart Piet (Black Pete), a folklore character wearing black make up and parading the streets on St Nicholas’ day in Holland.
