Imagined Worlds

My work is imagined from what I see. I live in downtown Los Angeles in an Industrial District away from nature. Conversely, the paintings are about nature, what I've seen and felt in the wilderness, however, the work becomes modified by my inner life. The paintings are walks through the treasures of my mind, the memory of the energy I've experienced from walks in forests, rivers, mountains and beaches in America and abroad. The work lives between abstraction and realism and is also influenced by my everyday experience with nature in the small garden outside of my loft, a reminder of my many hikes in nature away from Industrial Downtown.

The work was also influenced by travels to Italy and Poland. The experiences of Krakow and Zakopane, Poland influenced my work in a spiritual way due to the energy of the people and the country itself. The interaction I had with the artists of Poland who attended my gallery show continues to influence the art I make today. The experience of Florence, Italy, was a glorious banquet of Art through the ages of time. Everyday on the streets of Florence was a new encounter with Art. I attended Printmaking workshops which allowed interaction with students and local artists attending the schools.

A stay in Paris, the history of art in this city, it's energy and interaction with local artists will be an inspiration for my work. I intend many visits to the The Louvre and Orsay Museums as well as the Pompidou Center. I would make a series of 8 - 10 small paintings of my impressions of the energy of the parks, the people and streets of Paris and my experience of the River Seine. This would be an exciting new direction for my work.
