Pete Hickok (lives in San Francisco)

My approach to art revolves around the relationship between our cognitive and unconscious minds. Through the manipulation of objects and imaginative worlds I explore the bizarre ways we attempt to make sense of the senseless and unknown. At the heart of my practice is the use of control to mitigate the fear of the unconscious and the influence it exerts over our decision making processes. Also important to my line of inquiry is the distinction between the self and other, the inside and outside, and the physical and imaginary.

As a visual strategy I employ elements of Kitsch, non-art materials, and a child-like attention to the relationships between objects in order to unearth the uncertainty of our systems of logic.
