For
the tenth anniversary of the gallery anne barrault has invited a
curator who, in turn, has invited eleven others. This collective
exhibition will be like a game between these twelve curators who have
wished to remain anonymous. Rather than construct a group
exhibition the content of which would be the structuring of a single
concept and the linear juxtaposition of artworks, this project provides
a collective and dynamic process. The set up game proposes various ways
of display (gro... [more]

Exploring the Personal Experience, with New Tools

Tania Mouraud at Galerie Dominique Fiat

Right now, the Marais is a veritable minefield of explosive, exciting art shows. Luckily for the pressed gallery-goer, the rue Coutures St Gervais has two such shows, right next door to each other. At the Galerie Dominique Fiat is "Borderland," a collection of 11 photographs by the artist Tania Mouraud. I was immediately struck by the painterly qualities of the photographs, whose soft earth colors create calm, atmospheric landscapes. No recognizable form or horizon creates the landscape, bu... Anne-Sophie Emard at Galerie Odile Ouizeman

Â
Stepping out of Galerie Dominique Fiat, go just a couple of steps and into the domain of the graceful Odile Ouizeman. Ms. Ouizeman's latest selected artist is Anne-Sophie Emard, whose large-format photographs of spaces and land are organized into diptychs or are featured alone. Emard is interested in manipulating the photograph further to employ the message or personality that she perceived from each landscape. The diptych presentation helps create the conversation that some landscapes m... [more]

I attended La Force de l'Art 02 on the opening weekend and expected long lines outside the Grand Palais. Though the exhibit was in its final weekend (later extended) the line for TAG--the graffiti collection of Gallizia--stretched out past the grand entrance and Andy next door was reeling in hundreds. La Force de l'Art? Nobody. Not a single person waiting to see the triennial of French contemporary art. ORLAN was signing books that day and looked a little forlorn at her table, waiti... Do you dream of 80's synthetic? Plastic, faux, blandness surrounding you in corporate delight? Can you hear the Muzak in the air? Feel the vinyl beneath your fingertips? This is the vision of Tobias Madison, a young Swiss artist currently on view at Cardenas Bellanger.
Born smack in the middle of the 80's, Tobias has developed a bad bag of appropriated tricks from "Yes I Can!" moto-memorabilia (taken from his favorite hotel chain and almost namesake, the Radisson), to Oakle... [more]

The latest exhibition at the Concorde site of the Jeu de Paume brings together an unlikely couple of artists, Harun Farocki and Rodney Graham. The instigator and curator, Chantal Pontbriand understands their relationship to converge on four concepts associated with technological Modernity: the Archive, the Nonverbal, the Machine and Montage. In her press introduction, she also stated that the links are not made explicit through the exhibition, but that she hopes the viewer w... [more]

New Work by Chicago Artist Connie Noyes

Connie Noyes at Europia Galerie

Painter and conceptual artist Connie Noyes surprises with a construction of shredded patient information and text of patient stories, cerebrally elegant, the viewer is moved by the alienated clinical clarity and the matter of factness of the patient diagnostic stories while privacy is maintained. The artist's work is a view into the dark soul of ourselves. Not to be missed, show closes in one week; at Europia Galerie 7th arrondissement 15 Ave de Ségur 75007 Paris, France +33 1 45512607 htt... The Abject in Stitches

Angelo Filomeno at Galerie Anne de Villepoix
March 14th - May 26th

On display now at Galerie Anne de Villepoix is the curious and intricate art by Angelo Filomeno, a show divided into three rooms. While walking through the first room, I realized that after looking at shapes like a melting skull with fangs embroidered by black thread onto a black background, I was both enthralled and disgusted. The art’s exploration of the body and its abjection, specifically the mutations of the body both imaginary and real, is both violent and revolting, but at the same t... [more]
