Daniel Davidson, Eric White at Galerie Magda Danysz May 30th, 2009 - June 20th, 2009
Posted 6/3/09

And to top it off a great show of pop surrealism at Galerie Magda Danysz, Eric White's work was a standout: but unfortunately no good photos came of that opening! we were too busy with the Campari cocktails at that point. But do check out the show if you have a chance, there are some incredible large canvases that will blow your mind! --Natalie Hegert [more]

Michel Perot at Brachfeld Gallery May 7th, 2009 - May 17th, 2009
Posted 5/10/09

Artslant Team went out to discover more art on Wednesday the 6th, and found our way to two great openings. The first at Brachfeld Gallery, a solo exhibition from Michel Perot, recent graduate of L’École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, the show was put together by independent curator Lillian Davis: He uses a subdued palette to portray landscapes on the verge of the imaginary: ...and is particularly interested in the architectural / natural / historical. From my blog www.autoterrorist.org: At one of the most prestigious national institutions in Paris the post-graffiti collection of architect and lover of "l'art sauvage" Alain-Dominique Gallizia is on view in a newly restored hall. We visited TAG au Grand Palais to check it out. 150 international graffiti writers and artists are part of Gallizia's collection, which he started in 2006. As an architect he realized that with graffiti, the architects were no longer the only "artistes de la rue."... [more]

Connie Noyes at Europia Galerie April 3rd, 2009 - April 29th, 2009
Posted 4/22/09

Painter and conceptual artist Connie Noyes surprises with a construction of shredded patient information and text of patient stories, cerebrally elegant, the viewer is moved by the alienated clinical clarity and the matter of factness of the patient diagnostic stories while privacy is maintained. The artist's work is a view into the dark soul of ourselves. Not to be missed, show closes in one week; at Europia Galerie 7th arrondissement 15 Ave de Ségur 75007 Paris, France +33 1 45512607  htt... [more]

Raphaël Boccanfuso at Galerie Patricia Dorfmann April 18th, 2009 - May 23rd, 2009
Posted 4/20/09

By far the most well-attended (can we say free Scotch?) opening was at Galerie Patricia Dorfmann with an excellent solo show by Raphaël Boccanfuso, with his exclusively black and white palette, and pessimistic world view, entitled Plus que 4,500,000,000 d'années à t'attendre-- a series of etchings ending with the sentiment "Dieu est vide." with a Space Invader peering over the crowd... --Natalie Hegert [more]

We visited Jousse Entreprise for a surprising group show, especially the surreal taxidermy halflings created by Thomas Grünfeld:   We also had the pleasure of meeting M. Jousse and getting introduced to Louidgi Beltrame (see my review of his latest film and exhibition Brasilia / Chandigarh), whose film Les Dormeurs is on view. [more]

Walter Van Beirendonck at Galerie Polaris January 10th, 2009 - February 21st, 2009

A real treat was getting to meet fashion designer and installation artist Walter van Beirendonck:   He was invited to create a show at Galerie Polaris, his first venture into strictly contemporary art. It's entitled 2357, as in 300 years after van Beirendonck's demise, and humans from the future have unearthed his sarcophagous. The installation is what's to have been found in his tomb: [more]
