In God's Eyes: A Match Made In Heaven
by

In God’s Eyes: A Match Made In Heaven Your wife likes puppets. She likes bow ties. Her teeth never clang a fork. She's French bourgeois, but likable. She's a gentle sadist. She makes homemade popsicles. She plays guitar, and really well. She lets you borrow her socks, and she wears thong underwear. You go commando. You also refuse to shower after sex, sometimes for days. You nearly killed a girl, in Berlin, sharing your deodorant optional philosophy. L... [more]

The City
by
9/1/14 Posted 9/1/14

The City Cities are dwelling places. Spaces that hold, connect, stir, shake and respond. Some people are invited in, others keep passing by and every now and then there are intruders; every city deals with crime differently. The city that I speak of is my body. It is a city of significance, once forgotten but now reawakened. It speaks to the multitude of meaning, which is me. When I was four, I lived in a Glendale, a small growing suburban town thirty minutes from Los Angeles. In the morning,... [more]

Ibn al-Nadim’s Kitāb al-Fihrist evokes the origins of the story of “The Two Wives of the King, One of Whom Preferred Slave Boys and the Other Slave Girls, with the Remarks of Philosophers about the Matter.” He suggests that it is one of many tales compiled in Arabic of the “One Thousand and One Nights.” He also proposes that the masterpiece is partly inspired by the Persian legend “The Thousand Stories.” The “One Thousand and One Nights” is... Daddy’s Girl
by

Your hair is no longer the jet-black wave that I use to run my fingers through to annoy you. Asking questions of “Daddy, do you think I am pretty.” A game we often played. You hair is now salt and pepper. More salt than pepper. I’m heading into my thirties and acknowledging multiple fears, they have been rising feeling them more than usual. I am no longer the twenty-year-old girl pretending to be a rock, as if that is strength. I am now a woman and my own anchor. Strength is... [more]

Me and Mrs. Rosenberg
by
9/1/14 Posted 9/1/14

I used to live in a high rise apartment building in Chicago, Illinois that had an overwhelmingly large population of Jewish widows. I ended up becoming quite friendly with many of them. Cookie, Thelma, Harriet, Eleanor. A veritable stable of adopted Bubbies. I recently finished writing a fictionalized short story of some of these ladies for issue three of Majestic Disorder magazine. They were and are darling yentas, who elevated matzo ball soup to pure delight. My favorite part of my days spent in... [more]
