The Sketchbook Project

Until mid January I’ll be working on ‘The Sketchbook Project’. This is quite a fun project where artists can submit a sketchbook, it will become part of a permanent collection in the Brooklyn Library, New York.

This project is really easy to take part in - all you need to do is: sign up; they’ll send you a sketchbook; you complete the sketchbook; send it back and your work will be exhibited and become part of a permanent collection.

The title of my sketchbook is: Memoir - originally I chose this title to document my lunchtime sketching through my working day. Most of the time the lunch hour just proves to be too short!!! This does remind me how I would love to become entirely independent in my art and don’t have to rely on a day job to support my passion! I will keep regular updates on this project - sketches, exhibition and collection.drawing for Sketchbook Project

Busy, Busy Month

June has been a very busy, but also a great month!

On the 20th of June I took part in an exhibition in Bristol - Papergirl Bristol I truly wished I could’ve been there for the opening, however the feedback was GREAT and there might be a possible commission. Here’s the link:

Then also on the 20th of June my art were shown in Times Square NY as part of a Billboard exhibition by Artists Wanted. Unfortunately a few things went wrong with the live feed of the showcase and the artists who couldn’t be there had to rely on other artists for documentation. I can therefore consider myself truly fortunate to find a clip of my work on YouTube, I’m 0:41/42 seconds into the video:

On the 22nd of June I participated in Vibe Islington Pop-Up exhibition and in all honestly I’ve never come across such an unorganised exhibition... But someone very important told me once that if you do not walk away with a future contact from an exhibition you need to think twice where you’re spending your energy. So on the positive side I did land some contacts and possible future opportunities that is very exciting indeed!!

Finally some fantastic news my abstract painting ‘Taking Flight’ was awarded Special Recognition by ‘Light, Space and Time Online Gallery’. I’m truly pleased about this since there was 900 applications and I’m one of the top 100.

July will also be an active month - I’m off to Barcelona for the ‘BARCELONA SHOWCASE’ cannot wait and will keep everyone up to date!!

Wrapping up April

Some really good news, on the 14th of July I’ll be taking part in Barcelona’s Showcase. I tackled the bull by the horns and am trying to produce as much work to select from. The theme I’m working with stays true to my statement and I will work with my cultural background and the process of adapting to London. When I finish my paintings I will need to make the correct preparations for this showcase that includes framing, printing of business cards and flyers.  But first things first I need to get my paintings in order.

Then I’ve had news from Rome’s Exhibition - The Glance of Others - this exhibition should take place on the 26th of May and today I should receive definite confirmation because they might extend the dates.... Hopefully, the dates will stay the same! We’re a whole entourage going down for the opening, so if dates are extended then I guess it will turn into holiday time instead.

Also, I was accepted to sign a 3 month contract with Debut Contemporary, however they charge the artists £95 / week (3month minimum).... After many a debate and back and forth while trying to get as much input from other artists, gallerist and or colleagues, I decided that it is slightly out of my price range and since I could not get any definite, positive feedback, I did not accept the contract. If anyone knows about Debut Contemporary and have dealt with them as a contracted artist, or had any experience with Debut Contemporary please do get in touch with me to share your comments at I’d appreciate any / all feedback.

During March I attended a sticker workshop through ‘Secrets of the Sticker Shed’ at the High Roller Society. My expectations of the workshop was about being completely involved throughout the workshop, but instead we had to watch the processes and did not even got our hands dirty. A bit of a let down. The closest we got to be involved was to do a quick screen print of their design that’s already been set up and demonstrated, what was left for us to do was to pull the squeegee... So slightly disappointed from my side because as an artist we want to get involved, get our hands dirty, work on our own designs and be creative. But nevertheless it did remind me of the meticulous process of doing a screen print. I’ve added some images from the workshop for you to view here on my blog:

Some really good news for my art fund... I managed to get some work - finally! I’m working at the London school of Economics and the Natural History Museum, one of the perks are that I can be part of some stunning exhibitions such as ‘Animals Inside Out’ by Gunther von Hagen. Here is a review from the current exhibition:

I would most definitely recommend this exhibition!!

That would be wrapping up this month as for next month I will definitely give feedback regarding Rome and hopefully the exhibition - Papergirl Bristol will take place, but more of that next month.
