El Grand Rio Rojo

Woodblock Print
10" x 10" inches
© Alia Griffith

This work is about my daughter's heritage. She is half mexican and the title is referring to both her Latina background and Oklahoma's Red River; which is the state where she was born. Again in this piece she is represented as a cat baby because I use this animal to represent her in my work. The geometrical lines in the background refer to the osage shield which is on Oklahoma's flag. The spiral shapes loosely refer to commonly found petroglyph shapes found in New Mexico where I lived for a time and still have family.
