Description
Through the arrangement of varying images and recycled materials, my work explores the context of the “thing-in-itself” in relation to its surrounding world, and how this reflects the relationship of individuals to their environment. My main focus has been to elevate throw-away objects to reliquary status. The decisive juxtaposition of familiar objects and materials emphasizes their formal qualities, severing the association of each part to its bygone value. The parts are transformed into relics with an ironic juggling of reverence and irreverence. This transforms our perception of appropriate avenues to the sublime, and raises the question of what is meaningful or useless, beautiful or ugly, rare or common.
