Description
my work deals with the pin-up genre A Pin-Up is sexually evocative image, reproduced in multiple copies, in which either the expression or attitude of the subject invites the viewer to participate vicariously in or fantasize about a personal involvement with the subject. Even in a genre as innocent looking as the pin-up, all the elements of patriarchal values are present in the exploitation of the woman as sexual object and the objectification of the female as a piece of property to be owned and ruled by men. Reflective in the pin-up is the masculine view of woman as passive-an object to be pinned up-and masochistic-existing for men’s pleasure in whatever form it might take. Also reflected subtly in the pin-up, is masculine hostility toward woman. My aim is to illustrate and explore the exploitation and pigeonholing of woman through the pin-up.
