ACCOLA CONTEMPORARY is set within a spacious private townhouse in the Murray Hill section of New York. Open by invitation and appointment exhibitions will change monthly. Beginning in October 2008, ACCOLA CONTEMPORARY will be working with LITTLEJOHN CONTEMPORARY to present a wide range of important contemporary art.
The ACCOLA CONTEMPORARY inaugural September exhibition presented 13 "mid-career" artists – all of whom have been making art for at least 15 years, most for more than 30. Their careers and long exhibition histories include prestigious residencies, grants, commissions and representation in important collections. The artists are Victoria Burge, Caroline Burton, Nancy Cohen, Thom Cooney Crawford, Janet Culbertson, Barbara Klein, Bill Leech, Katherine Parker, Megan Marlatt, Martha Posner, Wes Sherman, Bruce Wall, and Rhonda Wall, and together they present a range of painting, sculpture, drawing and installation and performance.
Many of the 13 artists ACCOLA CONTEMPORARY opened the gallery with were included in exhibitions she put together over the last 15 years as a curator, most notably as Curator and Director of Exhibitions at the Hunterdon Museum of Art in Clinton, New Jersey.
In addition to her 15 years as a curator Ms. Accola worked for 15 years previously in two NYC art galleries.
ACCOLA CONTEMPORARY will be working in association with LITTLEJOHN CONTEMPORARY in the gallery and also for art fairs, including Aqua Art Wynwood, Miami.
