White Box is one of the first international nonprofit art spaces in New York City presenting multidisciplinary exhibitions and programs that feature emerging to established artists and curators. Founded in Chelsea in 1998, White Box relocated in 2008 to 329 Broome Street where it currently maintains main level and lower level gallery spaces in the Lower East Side. With few alternative art venues remaining in downtown New York, White Box strives to offer a unique space for new artistic experimentation and dialogue while recognizing an engagement with political and social discourses. Since 1998, exhibiting artists have included Michael Snow, Martha Rosler, Gunter Brus, Hermann Nitsch, Paul Thek, Carolee Schneemann, William Anastasi, Gordon Matta-Clark,Tim Hawkinson, Teresa Margolles, Tania Bruguera, Zhang Huan, Ushio Shinohara, Chitra Ganesh, Wafaa Bilal, Adel Abidin and many more.
