Black & White Gallery was founded in New York in 2002. The first Gallery was a unique industrial indoor/outdoor ground floor space in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn - the breeding ground of emerging talent at that time. From the outset, the Gallery was committed to cultivating innovative young artists in the initial and more advanced phases of their careers exploring contemporary themes and concepts through multiple mediums.

From time to time the Gallery presented the work of compelling young artists alongside contemporary masters such as Carl Andre, Eva Hesse, Alfred Jensen, Donald Judd, Fred Sandback, David Smith, Robert Smithson and Mark de Suvero. The Gallery also initiated the ongoing series of site specific exhibitions and performances in the outdoor space. The success of this program led to dedicating the entire Gallery space – indoors and out - exclusively to site-specific installations to allow for an expanded exhibition schedule and facilities for large-scale works and dramatic installations.

In 2006 the Gallery opened an additional space in Chelsea – again on the ground floor of an industrial building – Chelsea Terminal Warehouse. With the move came the opportunity to show the work of young artists associated with “Williamsburg” in a new context.

Artists under the Gallery representation have exhibited widely at art centers and museums around the world. They are the recipients of prestigious awards, grants and fellowships, such as the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship (Isidro Blasco, Liset Castillo, Randy Wray, Jackie Saccoccio), the Fullbright Scholarship (Jane Benson), the Rome Prize, American Academy in Rome (Jackie Saccoccio) and the Socrates Sculpture Park Fellowship (Michael Krondl). Their work has been reviewed in national and international newspapers, magazines, and catalogues and is in major public and private collections, such as The Margulies Collection, Hubert Neumann Collection, Progressive Art Collection, George Soros Foundation, Ellen and Jerome Stern Collection and The West Collection.

In the 2007-2008 season, work of Gallery artists have been included in museum exhibitions at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Brooklyn, NY (Liset Castillo), Parrish Art Museum, Southampton, NY (Liset Castillo), Albright Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, NY (Julian Montague), El Museo Del Barrio, New York, NY (Liset Castillo and Tamara Kostianovsky), Centro Cultural Palacio La Moneda in Santiago de Chile and John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan, WI (Isidro Blasco).
