Ed. Varie is an independent gallery and bookstore in the East Village’s Alphabet City. Opened in February 2010 under the guidance and support of founder Karen Schaupeter, Ed.Varie has become an anchor for emerging artists, and a home to the contemporary art community. Our mission is to bring artists in the early stages of their career to the large and influential art market in Manhattan, that is historically, and increasingly difficult, for young artists to permeate.

Inspired by the fundamentals of open programming, Ed. Varie fosters all forms of contemporary art, and offers a platform for artists to explore new concepts and take uncharted risks in their practice. Ed. Varie supports a wide range of artists, national and international; as well maintains a beautiful and highly curated bookstore of limited edition art books from independent and micro-niche publishers.

As the spring 2012 Ed. Varie became a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Financial contributions and donations allow Ed. Varie to continue to be a place holder for emerging and mid-career artist from all disciplines, from all over the globe to have a space to exhibit their work in Manhattan.
