SKETCH MESSAGE - URBAN TOPIARY PAMELA ENZ
I discovered SKETCH MESSAGE, a function on my cell phone in 2009 . I have since learned to control and manipulate its imagery, finding an expansive new medium in this most "low-tech" of digital technology with which to draw and play with the miracle of light, shape, distance and change. Their size is variable with a unique quality that evolves as it increases in eloquent, evocative and unexpected ways .
I have created a body of Sketch Message portraits which I believe resonate a soulful truth through an unexpected electronic filter. Strolling the waterways and plazas alongside and under the bridges of Gowanus, Dumbo and Red Hook I have also been recording Brooklyn’s cityscape, its transient space and architecture whose transformation is a day to day event founded on the cycle of construction and deconstruction.
These images naturally lend themselves to narrative and some will become the “ cells “ both characters and locations in a planned planned open ended interactive web based novella "URBAN TOPIARY". Viewers will be invited to be pixilated characters & part of a live performance taking my place behind the camera with established characters in the audience & onstage.
