SKETCH MESSAGE - URBAN TOPIARY           PAMELA ENZ

I discovered SKETCH MESSAGE, a function on my cell phone in  2009 . I have since learned to control and manipulate its imagery, finding an expansive new medium in this most "low-tech" of digital technology with which to draw and play with the miracle of light, shape, distance and change. Their size is variable with a unique quality that evolves as it increases in eloquent, evocative and unexpected ways .

I have created a body of Sketch Message portraits which I believe resonate a soulful truth through an unexpected electronic filter.  Strolling the waterways and plazas alongside and under the bridges of Gowanus, Dumbo and Red Hook I have also been recording  Brooklyn’s  cityscape, its transient space and architecture whose transformation is a day to day event founded on the cycle of construction and deconstruction.

These images naturally lend themselves to narrative and some will become the “ cells “  both characters and  locations in a planned planned open ended interactive web based novella  "URBAN TOPIARY". Viewers will be invited to be pixilated characters & part of a live performance taking my place behind the camera with established characters in the audience & onstage.

Enlarged they are techno-expressionistic & could enhance public space, an avenue I am pursuing
