Conceptually minded, Thomas Erben Gallery strives to either rediscover or expose work that contributes to contemporary discourse and extends the possibilities of the artists’ chosen media.
Thomas Erben began his professional career in art in 1989 as a private dealer focusing on contemporary American art. In 1993 he began organizing exhibitions in his private space, leading to the opening of Thomas Erben Gallery, located initially in SoHo and now in Chelsea. From the beginning, the program has been multidisciplinary and internationally oriented, showcasing emerging as well as established artists.
In addition to a rigorous exhibition schedule, the gallery has participated in major art fairs and fostered ties with prominent institutions including MoMA, The Whitney Museum of American Art, San Francisco MoMA, The Walker Art Center, MoCA Los Angeles, Fogg Art Museum, Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, the Serralves Museum, Portugal, and the Devi Art Foundation, New Delhi, to name a few.
