Sporadic, is a solo show of mixed media works by Sabra Booth on display from March 15-May 30 at Pepe Giallo, a charming Italian restaurant in the heart of the Chelsea gallery district. Organic forms are a principle source of inspiration for her work. While on a 2007 Fulbright residency In Finland, Booth studied the rich heritage of Scandinavian design. This research led her to further simplified forms and compositions edited to only the essentials. Forms are magnified and cropped until they become otherworldly. The work in this show includes mixed media depictions of sieni, mushrooms, that she observed in the Finnish forests. Other pieces are based on dried Japanese and Italian varieties of fungi.  Like a 19th century naturalist, she often sketches and paints flora and fauna on site.  Harkening back to her light sculptures that were on display at the International Print Center New York in 2001, these pieces both glow in the dark and fluoresce under a black light. Booth captures a sense of wonder in the natural world with this jewel-like show.
