SOHO20 Chelsea Gallery presents “Once More, with Feeling…” an exhibition of Ruth Gilbert’s most recent body of dimensional paintings and sculptures. Working with the idea of a sailor as a central theme, Gilbert brings forth an enchanting series of figures that allude to significant relationships in her life.

Gilbert’s paintings break away from the rectangular canvas, come off of the wall, and take on lively shapes and forms. Her whimsical sculptures are made from ordinary hardware materials and contain an element of simplicity that is derived from the artist’s intuitive feelings.

Gilbert’s work is further inspired by images from early civilizations. The use of this particular imagery stems from the artist’s interest in cultures that seem untainted by the constraints of modern society. 
 
Ruth Gilbert lives and works in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. She has held various group and solo shows, and her work has been shown at: The Maitland Art Center, FL, The Boulder Art Center, CO, and the Bronx Museum for the Arts, NY. This is her second solo show at SOHO20 Chelsea Gallery.
