James Peniston SculptureEVENT

A nine-foot bronze sculpture of Benjamin Franklin, commissioned by the
city of Philadelphia, will be dedicated at 10 a.m. at 4th and Arch
Streets in historic downtown Philadelphia. The public and press are
invited.
In 2003, the city selected Philly sculptor James Peniston to replace the much-loved but deteriorated "Penny Franklin" work. James enlisted local schoolchildren to help create a monumental bronze bust entitled "Keys To Community." The kids donated nearly 1.5 million pennies and more than 1,000 keys. Funded in part by the Philadelphia Fire Department, the sculpture will be installed in a historic courtyard next to the Engine 8 firehouse in historic Old City. |
