> DESCRIPTION

Cabaret [Tribunale], a fresh, multi-disciplinary reinterpretation of the beloved Cabaret experience, will make its international debut at New York City’s historic Judson Theatre on September 28, 2007.  Curated by Kristine Siegel (US/Denmark) and Line Felding (Denmark), Cabaret [Tribunale] presents a range of international artistic voices working in film, dance, music, visual arts, literature, and puppet theater, presented live according to the basic rules of the cabaret tradition. Award winning poet, comedian and vocalist MC Jabber, the master of ceremonies, will frame the evening’s entertainment, as each artist offers an act integrating art, political commentary, rascally antics, vogues, manias and critical satire.

Cabaret [Tribunale] challenges all who participate in exciting and provocative ways. Pushing the group show out from under the careful watch of gallerist and curator, each artist has been given complete freedom to develop a program of their own design, limited only by time and the consideration of a live audience.  Within this framework they are invited to investigate their own critical voices and to consider new modes of presentation. The collaborators in this ambitious art project are each professionals who have established themselves in their respective fields in the United States and Denmark. During their fifteen minutes on stage each of the members of this illustrious band of artists will present a stint in the shape of a performance or an art work addressing such hot potato issues as immigration, racism, terrorism, arms proliferation, globalization, socio-economic inequity, the media’s role in identity formation, and sex and gender discrimination. While Cabaret [Tribunale] delights with its artistry, humor and wit, it explores complex issues by addressing specific local concerns that go well beyond populist slogans and thematic exhibitions on political art, in order to provoke the audience into immediate participation and thoughtful critique.
