Smith-Stewart is pleased to present PINK PANTHER, the first exhibition
in a series of roving gallery shows. The exhibition features work by twenty
artists that explores the diverse and divergent meanings associated with
the color pink.
Spanning painting, sculpture, works on paper and video, the exhibition
mulls this color’s problematic status and specifically why it’s so powerful
that feminists and other marginalized groups have reclaimed it alike. The
show functions like a puzzle offering up a multitude of clues or proposals
about its polarizing nature. Taken as a whole the show attempts to tell us
why this color is overloaded with historical implication, stereotypical
connotation and running clichés.
