The Metropolis Between Your Ears brings together a major new project by American filmmaker Peggy Ahwesh, titled “The Ape of Nature”; a new series of sculptures and video sketches by British artist Andrew Lord; an early video by artist Paul Chan entitled “34 Flower Types for Henry Darger”; and variously scored versions of Charles Sheeler and Paul Strand’s 1921 urban homage “Manhatta.” The exhibition is organized in response to the theme of this year's International Conference on Romanticism, "Romanticism and the City,” cosponsored by the Center for the Humanities; The City College, CUNY; and the Office of the President, The Graduate Center. (For conference schedule, see www.ccny.cuny.edu/icrnyc/index.htm.) |
