Jack Hanley Gallery is pleased to present the second solo show installation by Ajit Chauhan in NYC at the Watts Street space, opening Saturday, June 20th 2009 and continuing until July 31st. As the artist describes this body of work, "ReRecord" is an attempt at subverting perception. Encompassing hundreds of erased record(album) covers with all the associations of the bands and singers they promoted, these 'take-away drawings" deconstruct the figure. The figurative is rendered abstract; sometimes sexless or genderless at times an isolated limb or mouth. They is a kind of exploration into anonymity and a sculptural aspect to the sanded flat works. The faces are a way of ordering things using found "street or skate" type common objects. |
