> DESCRIPTION

Saturday, May 30th, 2009 at 8pm, Art for Change (AfC) presents ArtWorks, a unique celebration of activism, community, and social justice. The event will feature an art auction, with works by some of the city's most established and up-and-coming artists. Cocktails and light refreshments will be served as guests dance the night away at the Brecht Forum, a rare and beautiful art space in Manhattan's West Village.  Our last art auction event raised $12,000 for Art for Change programs such as Art Belongs to Everyone, which brings art exhibitions to non-traditional spaces throughout the local community, and CALLE (Creating Artistic Links to Liberation and Expression), a bilingual (Spanish/English) street theater project designed to empower high school aged youth to voice their visions and opinions through theater.  Art for Change provides a forum for creating innovative art and media programs which inspire people to take an active role in social justice.  By merging art and community, AfC provides a space to explore social issues and celebrate the richness of cultural diversity.

We invite you to be a part of this very exciting evening!  Please join us in the bringing art, activism and social change to our world.  Your participation and support will help us reach our goals. All proceeds from the event go directly into AfC's community arts programming!
