Irving Sandler, the foremost historian of postwar American art, will present a talk in conjunction with the release of his book, Abstract Expressionism and the American Experience: a Reevaluation, which is co-published by SVA and Hard Press Editions (Mission Critical Series) in association with Hudson Hills Press. Sandler, a long-time champion of the American avant-garde movement and the author of many seminal texts on the subject, will be interviewed by Raphael Rubinstein, art critic, SVA faculty member, and editor of Sandler’s new book. Legendary painter Alex Katz will make introductory remarks. A Q&A and book signing will follow the lecture.
