> DESCRIPTION
Running in conjuncture with the Asher  B. Durand exhibition, this show highlights his landscape sketches and those of younger artists who followed his advice to work in the open air otherwise known as en plein airAs a prominent member of the Hudson River School Durand was very influential as a major practitioner of en plein air, he helped establish the technique as a fundamental component of landscape painting in the United States.  On display are several of Durand's sketches as well as selection of almost thirty sketchbooks, drawings, watercolors, and oil paintings from the Brooklyn Museum's collection of American art
