> DESCRIPTION

Takagi was born in Kyoto in 1980. Graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts with BFA degree. Takagi has developed her unique style with a mix of Western contemporary painting tradition and Japanese calligraphic approach. As a Kyoto native, Takagi believes that her use of subjects and colors is naturally inspired by Japanese traditional culture. Her favorite subject motifs are elements from nature particularly trees and plans as well as portraits. The series of her new works are filled with illuminating light, rich colors and texture. Compositions in Takagi’s paintings are bold and striking, yet she depicts her subjects so sensitively. Takagi is also renowned for her participation in music related works. She has produced fascinating works with her collaborator, Takagi Masakatsu and created his CD cover artworks and a brilliant music video animation, titled "Lightning" for the well-known Japanese singer, UA.

Takagi had her solo shows in 2000, 2003, 2004 in Japan, just finished her last one at Gallery Rocket in February 2005. She is scheduled to have a first Museum solo show at Tokyo Opera City Museum in this fall. Their collaborating video work was screened at newly opened the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary of Art, Kanazawa in fall 2004. 'ZERT' is curated by Taka Kawachi (www.bluewaveny.com) who has curated numbers of shows for museums and galleries in Tokyo, including exhibitions of Richard Prince, Nan Goldin, Patti Smith, Rita Ackermann and John Waters.
