> DESCRIPTION

In the late 1800s, a number of wealthy New York busi-nessmen established a string of estates along the south shore of Long Island, trans-forming the area into a forgotten Gold Coast. Chief among them was William K. Vanderbilt. Drawn to Oakdale, Long Island by the South Side Sportsmen's Club and the idyllic setting, Vanderbilt developed a near thousand-acre estate complete with winding canals, scenic drives, and a gentleman's farm. Come learn about this Gilded Age estate through historic photos.
