Repetition and the use of unlikely materials are two prominent themes, which continue to be displayed throughout Myers’ work. The theme of this exhibition is based on the hundreds of found vintage postcards that the artist has used as the substrate for the majority of the works shown. The influence of artists such as Cy Twombly and Antoni Tapies can be seen in the scrawls and drawings over each card, and indeed, Myers credits these abstract expressionists as having had strong influences on his work. Using graphite pencils and paint-like correction tape, Myers layers them to create curving abstract designs while revealing the intimate handwriting and colorfully stamped post cards below. From afar, some of the drawings suggest tribal art or primitivism, while others appear to reference midcentury textile design.
