Conscious Things
November 9 - November 16, 2012
Opening reception: November 9, 2012 6-9 pm
Picture Space is pleased to present Conscious Things, a group exhibition engaged in a vibrant dialogue about the diverse ways that images are used and created today. The pieces on view have their roots in photography, however each artist works in and around the medium to very different effect.
Elli Chung's oversized artist book Kami depicts scenes from nature and domestic life that allude to legendary characters in Japanese folklore. Ryann Cooley's installation examines physical relationships of light to surface and space. Lisa Fairstein's work deals with the construction of imagery and fantasy in a culture obsessed with the image of an image. Travis Brown and Roger Generazzo examine human interaction with the landscape, and its consequential impact. Rachel Styer explores the relationship between the self and the body through picture making, while Amani Willett probes personal psyche in relation to current social conditions in the United States. Also exhibited are Shahrzad Kamel's diaristic contemplations and Raul Gomez Valverde's archive of Personal images.
