BRIC has had a rich history of mounting exhibitions in such design disciplines as architecture, urban planning, and product and graphic design. Since the last design-focused show at BRIC Rotunda Gallery in 2000, Brooklyn has emerged as a center for innovative design, where pioneering projects are both developed and produced. The borough is also a destination for today’s most innovative thinkers. In that vein, On Purpose will feature inspiring work from Brooklyn-based designers, architects, and visual artists working across disciplines on projects that address the environmental challenges of contemporary urban living. All of the work featured in the exhibition will combine a focus on sustainability with a desire for beauty in our social, domestic, and professional spaces. Guest curated by Risa Shoup, recognized by ArtInfo as among “The Art World’s Most Influential Young Figures,” the exhibition will emphasize how diverse creative voices can work together to build community and imagine solutions to local urban planning issues.
