> DESCRIPTION

Waterhouse & Dodd is pleased to present an exhibition of recent work by Jean-Francois Rauzier, his second solo show with our gallery in New York.

Rauzier's large-format photographs depict iconic locations, among them the Palace of Versailles, the Vatican and the famous Gum shopping center in Moscow. Comprised of up to 3,500 individual high definition images, each captured with a telephoto lens, Rauzier's complex and incredible compositions transform architectural monuments, historic interiors and inspiring landscapes into surreal worlds that envelop the viewer with their scale and detail.

In addition to his distortions of perspective, Rauzier invents hyper-real scenes that exaggerate aspects of contemporary life, from post-apocalyptic “last suppers” riddled with international newspapers (Dernieres Nouvelles) to elaborate depictions of classic cars and the auto industry’s halcyon era (Parking GM).  Embedded in his compositions are myriad art historical and cultural references, culled from his vast lexicon of imagery. These pictures are indeed “Hyperphotos,” a term he coined to describe his prolific body of work.

Jean-Francois Rauzier was born in France in 1952. His work has been exhibited worldwide and featured in important institutions such as the Museum of Fine Art in Lille, France; The Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles, California; the Villa del Arte Galleries in the Diocesan Museum, Barcelona, Spain; and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA) in Russia. The artist lives and works in Paris.

Waterhouse & Dodd are exclusive agents for the artist in the USA, UK and the Middle East, and have large format presentation photos of many other limited edition works available upon request.
