Each year, BRIC presents an exhibition of promising, emerging artists selected exclusively from our online Contemporary Artist Registry, the oldest and largest registry of Brooklyn’s visual artists. This, the fifth edition of the Registry show, will focus on artists pursing a wide array of three-dimensional formats, and whose work acts to transform and activate the physical space around them. By affecting the surrounding environment, these works impact the viewer’s understanding of the space and the object itself, making the sense of scale and gravity compressed, expanded, or dissolved. Guest curator Jamie Sterns also calls attention to the fact that sculpture is a form of art that requires direct, first-hand exposure; its dimensionality makes it not fully translatable in the digital age.
