Drawing Form with Light
July 7, 14, 21, 28
Saturdays, 10:00 am – 4:30 pm
Fee: $590 (including $40 materials fee)
Instructor present each day
Enrollment limited to 12 students

The eye sees form as it is revealed by light hitting an object. We tend to have linear symbols stored in our brains that we rely upon when trying to reproduce the human form.

During this workshop, students will draw from observation rather than from these preconceived stocked images. Students will practice observational drawing, interpreting the human form through light and shadow while using a full range of values to create the illusion of depth on a two-dimensional surface. The instructor will give one-on-one instruction to help facilitate each student’s understanding and growth of drawing light, shadow, and form. Over the course of this workshop, students will create a series of value studies in anticipation of the workshop’s final project. Students will learn both additive and subtractive methods of handling graphite pencils on paper, resulting in a finished and detailed drawing.
