PIANO AS ART
A stunning exhibition of collaborative art by Penny Putnam and Shauna Holiman made of parts of reclaimed pianos will open at Faust Harrison Pianos in Manhattan amid dozens of gorgeous, high end pianos on May 10th, 6-8 PM. The more than 30 artworks range from the elegant (‘Elegy’, comprised of 1,640 ivory piano keys) to the witty (‘Off to the Races’ in which piano parts are transformed into racehorses) to the downright funny (Wagtime.)
“Fascinating for anyone interested in the piano, music or art, the sculptures of Penny Putnam and Shauna Holiman are both intricate and beguiling, taking what looks on the surface like a familiar form and transporting it into the realm of Surrealism.” John Rockwell, Former Arts Critic, New York Times
The show will be traveling from the Flinn Gallery in Greenwich, CT, where it received rave reviews. (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/12/nyregion/piano-as-art-exhibition-in-white-plains-review.html)
