"Know what the old masters did." Robert Henri wrote." Know how they composed pictures, but do not fall into the conventions they established. These conventions were right for them, and they are wonderful. They made their language. You make yours. All the past can help you. But be your own voice."
This very large exhibit of paintings (and one sculpture) features the art of the old masters as repurposed by contemporary OLD masters working today. They are somewhere between 60 and death and use fresh paint (and ideas) to interpret or, truth be known, steal from dead artists. But fresh paint also refers to the equal number of YOUNG artists in this exhibit who look back to move forward. And both the "old farts in the arts" and the young painters bring fresh-- and FRESH!-- interpretations to the work they create. The opening party March 6th at 6 will welcome each of these artists live and in person, God willing.
