Mario Garcia Torres on Alighiero e Boetti
Mario García Torres was born in 1975 in Monclova, Mexico. He received an MA from the Universidad de Monterrey, as well as an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. Through interventions, slide projections, films, and installations, García Torres presents personal narratives, often fictional, that illuminate forgotten paths within conceptual art history. He has participated in the 52nd Venice Biennale (2007); the 8th Panama Biennial (2008); and the Yokohama Triennale (2008); as well as exhibited in such international institutions as Kunsthalle Zurich; The Museum of Modern Art, Syros; Kadist Art Foundation, Paris; and Tate Modern, London. Recent solo exhibitions include Je ne sais si c’en est la cause.../MATRIX 227, BAM/PFA, Berkeley (2009); Il aurait bien pu le promettre aussi, Jeu de Paume, Paris (2009); All That Color Is Making Me Blind, Jan Mot, Brussels (2009); Mario García Torres, White Cube, London (2008); and Early Color Video Tapes, Proyectos Monclova, Mexico City (2008). García Torres was recipient of the Cartier Award in 2007. He recently organized The Title of This Show Is a Long List… at Jan Mot in Brussels. García Torres lives in Los Angeles.
