Haven Gallery is pleased to announce “NY Press:  On the Wall” curated by J.C. Rice.  This exhibition, employing both Gallery I and Gallery II, revisits and celebrates the aims of the photojournalist and addresses the importance and validity of reportage as a visual art.  

On one level, the exhibition presents a selection of photojournalistic images on expansive, gallery-defined, white walls.   These images are then no longer referenced in their objective, truth-dependent context, but rather have been re-framed into subjective objet d’art.   

On another level, the exhibiting photographers have been invited to step outside their role as “photojournalists” and exhibit images from their photographic oeuvre that move beyond the specificity of newspapers or magazines and warrant non-linear, gallery presentation and placement in the larger frame of art history. 

Photographic prints in silver gelatin, cebachrome and giclee will be shown alongside video and dioramas mixing found object and photographs.
